About the role
In this dynamic position, you will play a vital role in supporting our pathology services, driving quality assurance, and fostering team development. Your key responsibilities will include:
High-Quality Pathology Practice: Utilizing your tertiary scientific qualifications to perform allocated laboratory tasks with high accuracy and efficiency, ensuring strict compliance with unit and SydPath Quality Manual standards.
Quality Control & Research Innovation: Monitoring QC performance, supervising approved test development and validation procedures, and actively promoting research while staying up-to-date with industry advancements.
Leadership & Team Mentorship: Providing direct supervision and training to less experienced staff, helping to build team capability and foster a supportive learning environment.
Effective Collaboration & Communication: Actively participating in unit meetings, consulting with supervisors and senior staff on complex matters, and presenting at internal, SydPath, or external educational sessions.
Operational Excellence & Flexibility: Contributing to the smooth, efficient functioning of the unit by working flexibly across rostered shifts and performing other duties as required to support the team.
About you
We are seeking an experienced, quality-focused laboratory leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Qualifications & Chemistry Expertise: A tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science (or related discipline) and extensive experience in a 24/7 automated chemistry laboratory. Postgraduate qualifications in pathology or management are highly desirable.
Proven Leadership Capabilities: Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience within a high-throughput laboratory environment, backed by excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Rigorous Quality & Compliance Focus: Sound knowledge of laboratory quality systems, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements, alongside hands-on experience in QC monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Technical Innovation & Optimization: Experience in validation, assay development, and implementation, with a strong familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), automation platforms, or workflow optimization.
