ShipMonk isn't just a 3PL — we're the tech-powered growth partner for ecommerce brands, running 12+ owned fulfillment centers across the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe so our merchants can stress less and grow more.
We are ShipMonk, and we provide logistics services in order fulfillment. Our main business is in the USA, but our modern platform is built by the Product Development team in Prague.
ShipMonk is a leader in e-commerce fulfillment, and while our business core is in the USA, our technical foundation is built and scaled by our engineers in Prague.
Here at ShipMonk, we process up to 100,000 orders per day in our peak season. Our book of business has more than 1,500 clients, mostly small and medium e-shops based in the US. The ShipMonk platform covers the whole process, from stocking the items to shipping the ready packages to all corners of the world.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer primarily focused on Java (but not afraid to touch other languages) to join our Product Development team in Prague.
The core of our platform is a well-architected PHP modular monolith deployed on Kubernetes. Integrations with external systems, label provisioning, retailer compliance are handled by a set of Java services.
Recently, new initiatives are built with quick iteration in mind. We utilize AI to quickly build prototypes, internal warehouse apps or dbt for data analysis or Vercel apps. If you have a business case, it is up to you to decide what is the best concept for getting it in front of the end-user.
The real work isn't writing greenfield code in isolation. It's designing services that integrate into the existing warehouse processes, handle data transfer and distributed state across merchant ERP systems and the ShipMonk platform safely and consistently. Understanding how the data influences the warehouse processes is as important as scalable application design. The process often crosses the Java / PHP / Frontend boundary, and involves understanding of all parts.
The Stack
We maintain a highly automated, modern environment where the machines do the boring parts.
Backend & DB: Java 25, Maven, Gradle, Spring ecosystem, Hibernate, Spring Data JDBC, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, REST APIs.
Infrastructure: Everything is dockerizedand deployed to AWS EKS automatically after code merge. Any merge request can be spun up on its own dev cluster for E2E and manual testing, so nobody fights over a shared test environment.
Workflow & CI/CD: Monorepo and GitLab CI with a strict static-analysis setup (Checkstyle, SpotlessNullAway, security scans, Renovate). Our agreed coding rules are automated, not argued about in reviews.
Testing & Reliability: 35,000+ tests, 8,000+ database integration tests, each with its own independent dataset, so there's no shared data that constantly breaks. Automated AI review, two-round human code reviews.
Observability: HA, failover, and autoscaling across all services, supported by DataDog, Sentry. API documentation is generated automatically from code.
Who You'll Work With
You'll collaborate across the whole Product Development organization: Customer Backend, Warehouse (process optimization and automation), Internals (refactoring and legacy removal), Frontend (React/TypeScript), Data Science and Data Engineering (AI, DWH, prediction, BI), QA, DevOps/Infrastructure, and Product Owners. Plenty of experienced colleagues to learn from, and to challenge.
The Impact
We don't manage your hours; we manage outcomes. We value technical excellence paired with a business-oriented mindset. You are expected to bring:
Engineering for Impact: Code is a tool to solve business problems. You can weigh technical "perfection" against what the business actually needs, and make the call.
Architectural Ownership: You're a system designer, not just a coder. You'll own the design and implementation of new services, including how they talk to the monolith and handle high concurrency in mission-critical warehouse logic.
Integration Craft: Advanced REST, data integration, EDI communication are the heart of this role. Services must slot into the existing platform smoothly, without breaking what already works.
High-Availability: The public facing systems must stay up 24/7. This requires understanding backwards compatibility, zero-downtime migrations.
Data-Driven Performance: With a multi-terabyte database, every query matters. Failover and autoscaling are baseline requirements, not nice-to-haves.
High Signal, Low Noise: Our culture is built on deep work and asynchronous clarity via Asana. You take ownership of the outcome, and handle the communication with stakeholders and 3rd parties.
ShipMonk is a place where your engineering decisions have a visible, immediate impact on how goods move around the world. If you want to help build a new service architecture on top of a platform that already runs at real-world scale, we'd love to hear from you.
