About the Role

We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in networking who is curious, adaptable, and enjoys being part of a team.

While experience is valued, attitude is paramount. We want someone who is keen to learn, willing to get involved across infrastructure and technology domains when needed, and comfortable rolling up their sleeves to solve problems wherever they arise. This role is ideal for someone who sees every challenge as an opportunity to learn, improve, and contribute.

The Network Engineer plays a key role in the delivery, support, and continuous improvement of the University's network infrastructure and connectivity services. Working within the Cloud & Infrastructure Services team, you will help maintain reliable, secure, and scalable network services that support teaching, learning, research, and business operations across the University.

This is a hands-on technical role that will suit an engineer who enjoys solving problems, working collaboratively, and contributing beyond their core area of expertise when required.

As the Senior Network Services Officer, you will be responsible for:

• Supporting the delivery, management and continuous improvement of the University's network services and infrastructure.

• Contributing to the implementation of network technology strategies, projects and roadmap initiatives.

• Partnering with stakeholders to provide technical expertise and enhance customer-focused network services.

• Identifying and mitigating risks, while monitoring emerging technologies and supporting best-practice network operations.

A more comprehensive list of duties is available from the Position Description

This position makes a significant contribution to the University’s strategic plan to “Changing 10 million lives, Every One Matters”, by 2035 through the delivery of secure, reliable and future-focused network services that enable teaching, research and operations across the University. The role supports a culture of innovation, continuous improvement and agile ways of working to meet evolving technology and business needs.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Relevant qualifications in Information Technology (or a related discipline) and/or equivalent experience in a technical IT environment.

• Experience in one or more areas including routing protocols, network troubleshooting, switching architectures, network security, firewalls, VPNs or multi-vendor network environments.

• Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and deliver effective technical solutions.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, coupled with experience working collaboratively in agile or matrix-based environments.

Experience within the higher education sector and/or Cisco networking environments, including CCNA certification or equivalent experience, will be highly regarded.

What We're Looking For

You are a technically capable network professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a customer-focused approach and a genuine desire to continuously develop your expertise. You enjoy working collaboratively, building effective relationships with stakeholders and contributing to the delivery of reliable, high-quality technology services.

Why Join the Team?

We're building a team of people who are collaborative, adaptable, and willing to help wherever needed. While networking is the primary focus of this role, we are looking for someone who understands that delivering great technology outcomes is a team sport.

If you're the type of person who enjoys learning, isn't afraid to step outside your comfort zone, and wants exposure to a broad range of infrastructure technologies, we'd love to hear from you.

Technical skills can be learned. Curiosity, initiative, teamwork, and attitude are what make great engineers.

• Opportunity to work with modern cloud, network, and security technologies

What Success Looks Like

After 12 months in this role, you will have:

• Become a trusted member of the Infrastructure Services team.
• Built a strong understanding of the University's network and technology environment.
• Contributed to service improvements and infrastructure projects.
• Developed skills beyond traditional networking into cloud, security, and platform technologies.
• Established strong working relationships across IDS and the broader University.

This is an excellent opportunity for a network engineer who wants more than "just networking" and is looking to grow into a well-rounded infrastructure professional
