Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer - Civil to support the successful delivery of key packages on a major infrastructure project in Auckland. This role blends strong on-site leadership with planning, cost control, and commercial capability to drive predictable outcomes across time, cost, quality and safety.
Key accountabilities
- Lead, develop and manage a high-performing multi-disciplinary site team (engineers, supervisors, subcontractors) by fostering accountability, strong communication, and a culture of safety and wellbeing, ensuring alignment with project objectives and consistent delivery standards.
- Own and drive short-term planning processes by reviewing the 2-week work plan (2WWP), ensuring clear alignment with the 6-week lookahead plan (6WLAP) and overall project programme, while proactively resolving clashes and maintaining workflow continuity.
- Develop, maintain and communicate structured planning frameworks by producing the 6WLAP from the P6 programme, managing the weekly planning cycle, and maintaining a forward-looking 6–12 month strategic outlook to identify interface risks, stakeholder impacts, and long-lead procurement requirements.
- Monitor and optimise project schedule performance through monthly critical path reviews, identifying key risks and constraints, and implementing mitigation strategies, while ensuring an achievable and efficient programme through effective sequencing, resourcing, and management of public interface constraints.
- Control and manage project financial performance for delegated scope by tracking costs against budget, ensuring delivery meets or exceeds time, cost, and quality targets, and preparing accurate end-of-month reporting including forecasting final cost and revenue positions.
- Provide strong commercial and contractual oversight by managing risks and opportunities, analysing cost variances and performance trends, and supporting key processes such as progress claims, variations, cost recoveries, procurement and tender reviews, as well as maintaining compliance through quality systems, document control, NCR management, and handover readiness.
Required Skills and Competencies
- 7+ Years experience delivering large civil infrastructure projects (major roads experience preferred) within a live construction environment.
- Extensive experience leading, mentoring and managing teams
- Strong technical knowledge of pavement construction, bulk earthworks and drainage, including coordination of utilities and interfaces.
- Demonstrated planning and programming capability (P6 and lookahead planning), with strong sequencing and resourcing discipline.
- Strong commercial acumen and contracts management experience, including cost control, forecasting, progress claims and variations.
