Role Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Strategy
Accountable for overall quality outcomes for assigned product areas, including release readiness and go/no‑go recommendations.
Own and drive test strategy for features, epics, and releases across the Matchbook platform
Define and continuously improve regression, functional, and exploratory testing approaches
Act as a quality advocate and subject matter expert, promoting shift left testing and built in quality
Identify quality risks early and proactively escalate to stakeholders with mitigation plans
Test Design & Execution
Design, maintain, and review high quality manual and automated test cases
Ensure features are validated across positive, negative, edge, and failure scenarios
Lead complex test scenarios involving integrations, data dependencies, and multi component workflows
Perform hands on testing where automation is not appropriate or sufficient
Automation & Tooling
Play a lead role in defining automation strategy, tooling standards, and maintenance approach; balance ROI of automation vs manual testing.
Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks and feature files
Ensure automation coverage aligns with business risk and provides long term value
Review automation contributions from other QA engineers and provide technical guidance
Collaboration & Delivery
Work closely with Product Owners and Development teams to define acceptance criteria and quality gates
Participate actively in backlog grooming, sprint planning, stand ups, and retrospectives
Act as a customer champion, ensuring user needs and risks are represented in delivery decisions
Communicate testing progress, quality status, and release risks clearly to management
Mentorship & Process Improvement
Mentor and support junior and mid-level QA engineers
Drive continuous improvement initiatives in QA processes, tools, and practices
Contribute to defining QA standards, best practices, and documentation
Risk & Compliance
Manage testing related risks and issues with timely escalation
Ensure adherence to internal policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements
Demonstrate integrity, diligence, and accountability in all responsibilities
Complete mandatory training and annual risk management attestations
Experience / Competences
Essential
Extensive experience as a QA Engineer in software development projects
Strong expertise in QA methodologies, tools, and processes
Proven ability to design test strategies, test plans, and comprehensive test coverage
Solid experience in test automation (UI and/or API)
Strong experience working in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) teams
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non technical stakeholdersHands on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab)
Technical experience with Java, Typescript, SQL, or similar technologies
Experience with automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber, SpecFlow, NUnit, FitNesse, or equivalent
Ability to work independently while leading quality initiatives within a team Experience in financial services or complex, data driven systems is desirable

Advanced understanding of black box, grey box, and white box testing
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to assess and communicate quality and release risk
Confident in influencing teams and driving quality outcomes
