Senior Software Engineer, II

Accountabilities:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take ownership of product development across the full technology stack while helping establish scalable, AI-native engineering practices. Your responsibilities will include:

• Build end-to-end product features: Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and mobile experiences across iOS and Android, adapting to the needs of each feature.

• Develop experiences for Aging in Place: Build reliable, intuitive features that help older adults remain safely independent and enable families to stay informed and connected.

• Expand into emerging product areas: Adapt established patterns and services to support future verticals, including connected devices, tracking products, and pet safety.

• Integrate AI into engineering workflows: Use AI coding assistants and agentic workflows, including Claude Code, to support specification development, coding, testing, code review, refactoring, and documentation.

• Define AI-native engineering standards: Develop, document, and improve repeatable AI-assisted workflows that increase team productivity while maintaining high standards of software quality.

• Improve development efficiency: Experiment with agent orchestration, automated prompting strategies, and other AI-enabled practices to accelerate delivery and tackle complex engineering challenges.

• Collaborate across disciplines: Partner with Product Managers and Designers to translate customer needs and complex problems into elegant, scalable technical solutions.

• Contribute to architecture and technical quality: Participate in architectural decisions, code reviews, technical standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Own production outcomes: Take responsibility for features from initial development through deployment, production monitoring, incident response, and ongoing maintenance.

• Maintain reliability and performance: Ensure that the features you own meet expectations for scalability, accessibility, performance, and operational stability.

• Participate in on-call support: Contribute to the team's on-call rotation and incident response processes to maintain dependable services.

• Mentor and support teammates: Share technical knowledge, help colleagues adopt effective AI-assisted workflows, and contribute to a culture of accountability and engineering excellence.

• Measure success through member impact: Focus on delivering meaningful improvements to the customer experience, not simply completing development tasks.

• Drive continuous learning: Stay current with evolving AI development tools and recommend improvements that meaningfully enhance engineering practices.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a versatile, product-minded engineer with strong full-stack capabilities, experience building consumer-scale services, and a demonstrated ability to use AI as a substantive development partner. You should be comfortable taking ownership of complex problems and delivering reliable software in a fast-moving environment. Key qualifications include:

• At least 5 years of experience building and operating high-quality, consumer-scale software services.

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience prompting, evaluating, and building with large language models (LLMs).

• Full-stack proficiency across backend services and mobile client development, with experience in iOS and/or Android and the ability to work across the stack as needed.

• Strong experience with agentic workflows, prompt engineering, context-window management, and MCP or function-calling integrations.

• A proven track record of using AI development tools to increase productivity across meaningful engineering tasks, including coding, analysis, testing, refactoring, and codebase navigation.

• Experience with or the ability to work effectively in backend environments using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, Kafka, and Kafka Streams.

• Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure, particularly AWS, and modern mobile development technologies such as Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android.

• Strong engineering judgment and a commitment to reviewing AI-generated code with the same rigor applied to any other implementation.

• A high degree of ownership, including the ability to follow through from implementation to production readiness, operational reliability, and real customer outcomes.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working closely with Product, Design, and platform engineering teams.

• Enthusiasm for defining and improving AI-native engineering practices rather than relying exclusively on established workflows.

• A customer-focused mindset and empathy for older adults seeking independence and family members supporting loved ones from a distance.

• A bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.

• Willingness to mentor teammates, share effective AI workflows, and contribute to team-wide engineering standards.

• Curiosity and adaptability, with an ongoing commitment to evaluating new tools and improving development processes.

Additional experience that would be advantageous includes:

• Experience with IoT, telematics, connected devices, or hardware-adjacent systems.

• Familiarity with high-throughput streaming platforms such as Kafka or Kinesis.

• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or Datadog.

• Experience operating services at significant scale and improving their performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Benefits:

• United States salary range: $118,500–$216,500 per year. Compensation depends on experience, relevant skills, job-related knowledge, and geographic pay tier.

• Total compensation includes equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), alongside a comprehensive benefits package.

• Remote-first working environment for eligible employees based in the United States and Canada.

• Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with premiums fully covered for US employees.

• Life and disability insurance, with supplemental medical and dental options available for Canadian employees.

• 401(k) retirement plan with a company matching program for US employees.

• Paid parental leave.

• Flexible paid time off, company-wide holidays, and summer and winter shutdowns.

• Mental wellness resources and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

• Learning and development programs to support ongoing professional growth.

• Equipment, tools, and reimbursement support for an effective remote workspace.

• Free premium membership and connected tracking devices.

• Access to AI coding tools, including Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, as part of everyday engineering work.

• Opportunities to influence technical direction, establish AI-native engineering standards, and mentor other engineers.

• The chance to build technology with meaningful real-world impact for families, older adults, and their loved ones.

• A collaborative, mission-driven culture that values integrity, respectful communication, ownership, and customer experience.
