Senior Software Engineer Specialist
Esko | Veralto Corporation Location: Bangalore, India – Hybrid
About the Role
The Opportunity
We're seeking a Senior Software Specialist to design, build, and deliver solutions for WebCenter Enterprise, a Java/J2EE web application that helps brands and packaging suppliers manage end-to-end packaging and artwork projects—from specifications and content through collaboration, review, approval, and production readiness. In this hands-on role, you'll independently own high-impact features from concept through delivery and support, use sound engineering judgment, and help the team adopt AI-assisted development responsibly. This is an opportunity to deepen your technical leadership, shape the future of an enterprise platform that streamlines complex packaging workflows, and grow your career at the intersection of innovation and purpose.
You'll work closely with product managers, architects, UX designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate business and customer requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions. Success in this role means delivering complex initiatives on time with measurable quality improvements—and raising the technical bar for the engineers around you within 12–18 months.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain WebCenter Enterprise using Java/J2EE and modern web technologies, with React experience preferred, to ensure reliability, security, and performance.
- Own and deliver complex features, enhancements, and technical initiatives independently from requirements clarification and design through implementation, automated testing, release, and follow-up; communicate progress, dependencies, and risks proactively.
- Translate business and customer requirements into scalable, maintainable, and high-quality technical solutions that create lasting impact.
- Collaborate across teams to identify, manage, and resolve dependencies that impact delivery timelines and product quality.
- Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architecture and implementation decisions that drive long-term product health.
- Articulate technical decisions, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to build shared understanding.
- Contribute to AI-powered application capabilities that improve customer productivity and user experience where required by the product roadmap.
- Explore and integrate agent-based solutions, intelligent workflows, and AI-assisted product experiences where appropriate, in collaboration with architects and relevant specialists.
- Use approved AI-enabled development tools to assist with coding, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and investigation; independently review and validate outputs for correctness, security, maintainability, and protection of proprietary or customer data.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing to build a high-performing team.
- Promote engineering best practices, continuous learning, maintainability, and software quality across the R&D organization.
What We're Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
These are the must-have requirements for the role:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development with expertise in Java.
- Proven, substantial hands-on experience in Java/J2EE enterprise web application development, with a demonstrated track record of independently delivering and maintaining complex, production-grade features in an established software product.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven ability to translate business and customer requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions across the full software development lifecycle.
- Experience with modern web frameworks, RESTful API design, and software engineering best practices including testing, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide engineers through technical feedback, design discussions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to clearly articulate technical decisions, trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong Java fundamentals, object-oriented design, concurrency, exception handling, and practical understanding of HTTP, application-server behavior, and client/server interactions.
- Proven ability to diagnose complex defects using logs, debugging, and profiling; improve existing code safely through automated unit and integration tests, regression protection, and incremental refactoring.
- Ability to take ownership under ambiguity, clarify requirements, make proportionate technical decisions, and escalate risks early while collaborating effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
These skills will set candidates apart:
- Experience designing and implementing AI-powered application capabilities.
- Hands-on experience building AI agents, copilots, or agentic workflows.
- Familiarity with AI application patterns such as tool integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and workflow orchestration.
- Experience integrating AI services and large language models into enterprise applications.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Proven experience using AI-assisted development tools in real engineering work, with concrete examples of improved productivity or quality and critical validation of generated outputs.
- Experience with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and browser-side debugging.
- Experience modernizing established enterprise applications incrementally while preserving compatibility, security, and customer workflows.
