Join our Mainframe Platform Engineering team and help engineer, maintain and continuously improve the IBM Z infrastructure, z/OS systems and storage platforms that underpin critical banking services.
This is an opportunity to work across the mainframe technology landscape rather than being confined to one specialisation. You’ll bring established expertise in one or more areas while continuing to build capability across hardware, storage, operating systems, connectivity, performance, resilience and automation.
You’ll join a technology environment where complex, business-critical systems demand rigorous engineering, collaboration and continuous learning. The role offers the opportunity to deepen your existing expertise while developing capability across adjacent mainframe technologies.
In this role, you will:
Bring solid experience in mainframe infrastructure engineering, systems programming, storage engineering or a closely related discipline. You don’t need to be a specialist in every part of the IBM Z ecosystem. Of equal importance is strong engineering judgement, curiosity and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and solve problems across traditional technical boundaries.
Experience across several of the following will set you up for success:
Exposure to Parallel Sysplex, Coupling Facilities, System Automation, NetView, CICS, Db2, IMS, IBM MQ, Endevor or broader IBM Z hardware and software is advantageous, but deep expertise across every technology is not expected.
The advertising framework specifically recommends focusing on transferable capability and potential, distinguishing essential from desirable experience and avoiding overly long requirement lists, so I’ve consolidated the original technology catalogue accordingly.
You’ll have the opportunity to deepen your established specialisation while intentionally developing expertise in adjacent areas, whether that means moving from storage into z/OS and hardware, strengthening automation capability, or exploring emerging AI-assisted engineering practices.
The focus is on combining strong systems engineering expertise with new tools and approaches that can help engineers investigate problems, automate effectively, improve documentation and make complex platform knowledge more accessible.
