We are very excited to be growing our small and efficient TechOps team at Octopus. We aren't looking for standard IT support - we are looking for an ambitious, deeply knowledgeable and experienced TechOps Generalist to join our team, to grow with the rest of the company, and ensure we are doing so in a secure and safe way.
You will be a key partner in defining what TechOps is at Octopus. We will be continuing to shape this team to provide world class support to our employees, building our way out of problems with engineering firepower and undertaking transformational organisational change. We don't just "fix" things - we automate them out of existence.
For us, a Generalist isn’t about knowing a little of everything, it’s a multi-disciplinary role for someone who’s deeply experienced in many facets of Enterprise IT. Think multi-domain specialist - not Jack of all trades.
What is TechOps?
A more modern, more lean version of a traditional Enterprise IT team with around one of us for every 1000 people at Octopus. We cover everything from what most people would call “1st line support” all the way up to high-level strategic planning, and everything in between.
We tackle big problems and the breadth of work is huge. Dealing with ambiguity is a key part of working in TechOps, and every day will be a new and exciting one, working on varying challenges across the company and keeping plates spinning.
We have a cloud-first approach to everything we do. This allows us to scale quickly and focus on things where we can add the most value. No on-prem AD here!
Roles that you might currently be in: Systems engineer, DevOps, Tech support, Technical support, Technical support analyst, IT support, IT desktop support, Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, Workplace technology, Solutions specialist, Solutions administrator, Systems manager, Support manager.
What you'll do
What you'll need
We’re looking for people with at least 5-7 years of solid enterprise IT experience.
The technical bar is high. While we use Okta, Kandji, Kolide, Zscaler, Meraki and HiBob amongst others, we care about your understanding of the fundamentals of key SaaS tooling, but we also expect candidates to have significant experience implementing and customising these tools for Enterprise environments, so if you’ve lived in Entra and Intune? Awesome!
You’ll also need:
- Confidence in articulating and implementing your technical ability, particularly with enterprise-level SaaS tooling, customer support and automation. The ability to do this both with your peers and novice users is vital.
- A team player - we don’t want people who vanish and come back with perfect, completed work. You collaborate and work transparently and can identify who can help you, or needs your help.
- Rich experience and examples of scripting, using APIs to automating mundane and error-prone repetitive tasks.
- To be comfortable with a huge amount of ambiguity and spinning a lot of plates all at the same time.
- Experience working with multiple teams and managing multiple stakeholders.
- Experience managing and deploying macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android at scale
- Experience administering and troubleshooting Single Sign-On (SSO) technologies such as OAuth, OIDC and SAML.
- Deep experience with Identity & Access Management. You should be able to explain the nuances of SAML, OIDC, and OAuth, and have hands-on experience with SCIM provisioning.
- Experience of designing and installing office networks - we use Cisco Meraki.
- A conscientious approach to everything you do and a passion for doing the right thing rather than the easy thing.
Don’t think you check off every single box? We love hiring passionate people with a drive to learn. If you are an expert in some of these areas and are hungry to master the rest, get in touch and let us know where your strengths lie.
