Summary
Our Product Development & Operations (PDO) organization builds and runs the cloud platform that powers how P&C insurers around the world do business, with a strong focus on AI, cloud, and data platform adoption. You will join the Data Platform and Analytics team, which delivers secure, scalable data services that enable mission-critical insights for our customers. We work in an inclusive, collaborative environment using modern cloud-native technologies to solve complex data and distributed systems problems.
As a Software Engineer III, you will design and build cloud-native data and analytics services that sit at the heart of Guidewire’s platform strategy. You will use your expertise in modern Java, microservices, and frontend technologies like React or Angular to create large-scale, real-time data and analytics capabilities in the public cloud. This role is a key contributor to PDO’s priorities around operational excellence and transformative innovation, directly advancing Guidewire’s mission to combine digital, core, analytics, and AI to transform how the world’s P&C insurers do business.
Job Description
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and operate cloud-native data platform and analytics SaaS services that are secure, scalable, and reliable, supporting PDO’s focus on operational excellence and data platform adoption.
- Build and maintain large-scale, real-time stream processing and data ingestion systems that power analytics, data science, and reporting for our customers.
- Design, implement, and run microservices-based solutions using modern Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot, applying microservices and domain-driven design patterns.
- Contribute to intuitive, performant user experiences using modern frontend technologies (React.js or Angular, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for data and analytics workflows.
- Own CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for your services, leveraging containers and Kubernetes to ensure fast, safe, and repeatable releases.
- Take responsibility for availability, performance, observability, and data security of your services, including triaging and resolving production issues and defects.
- Maintain secure coding practices, address application security findings, and collaborate with Security and platform teams to support strong governance and compliance goals.
- At Guidewire, we foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and responsible use of AI—empowering our teams to continuously leverage emerging technologies and data-driven insights to enhance productivity and outcomes.
What you would need to succeed:
Required
- Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.
- 6+ years of relevant software engineering experience building production-grade services or applications.
- Experience designing and developing backend services in Java, ideally with Spring Boot, and familiarity with microservices and multithreading concepts.
- Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization techniques, especially in distributed or data-intensive systems.
- Strong programming skills in JavaScript and at least one modern frontend framework such as React.js or Angular, with solid knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Working knowledge of relational databases (such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) and experience with data warehousing technologies such as Amazon Redshift or equivalent.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture patterns such as service discovery, API gateways, and domain-driven design.
- Ability to thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment, collaborating across functions and locations in a transparent, inclusive way.
- Clear, respectful communication skills and a growth mindset, with a willingness to learn new tools, domains, and ways of working.
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with AWS or another major public cloud provider (e.g., IAM, networking, managed databases, streaming services).
- Experience building and operating containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes; familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
- Exposure to building large-scale real-time data streaming or event-driven systems (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or similar).
- Experience with observability and logging stacks such as ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity or similar systems.
- Understanding of distributed systems principles (consistency, availability, durability, reliability, fault tolerance, consensus algorithms) and how to apply them in production systems.
- Experience with AWS RDS or other managed relational database services.
Your Impact
We believe in clarity and setting you up for success. In your first six months, you will take ownership of one or more data platform or analytics services, deep dive into our architecture and tooling, and deliver features that enhance real-time data processing, scalability, and user experience. You will help improve service reliability, harden security, and evolve CI/CD pipelines, directly contributing to PDO’s goals around secure, efficient, and AI-ready cloud operations and data platforms.
As your expertise grows, your work will influence how insurers unlock insights from Guidewire Data Platform and analytics products, shaping customer outcomes and contributing to Guidewire’s broader mission to transform P&C insurance with cloud, analytics, and AI.
