AI-Native Full-Stack Engineer (Portal Owner)
100% Remote · Full-Time Independent Contractor · Latin America-Based · $5,000–$7,000 USD/month · U.S. Eastern/Central Hours Overlap
Imagine being the one engineer who owns the product at the center of a fast-growing company.
Every improvement you ship makes the platform where accounting firms find and hire talent a little better than it was last week. Every AI feature you build puts real capability in front of real users. Every automation you create helps a 45-person team run like 150.
That's this role.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'd be joining Cloud Accountant Staffing (CAS), a firm that places accountants into U.S. CPA firms. We're at roughly $12.5M in annual revenue, doubled in the last year, and on a plan to reach $100M by 2031. Our co-owners include one of the most-followed voices in the U.S. accounting profession, and our clients range from 5-person firms to some of the largest accounting firms in the world.
At the center of how we work is our portal, a marketplace-style platform built on Next.js and React where accounting firms find, review, and hire vetted talent. It's our biggest competitive advantage. It was built with our long-time development partner, who stays involved. Now we want one person in-house to own it and make it better every single day.
As our AI-Native Full-Stack Engineer, you inherit a working production codebase with real users and a long backlog of improvements the CEO has been collecting. You'll work through it, then keep going, shipping small iterations constantly with a direct line to the person who sets the priorities.
This is a product-ownership role. It is not a ticket queue, and it is not a short-term project. We are hiring for years.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
You're a senior full-stack engineer who is comfortable being the primary engineer on a product.
You've found that one person with AI tools can do what a small team used to, and you've proven it.
You can take a user complaint, a half-formed idea from the CEO, and a messy backlog and turn them into the right thing to build this week.
You don't need a PM to write you a ticket.
You write well and explain trade-offs clearly to non-engineers.
You're all-in: one product, one client.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
The Portal. Own it day to day. Work through the CEO's backlog in a production codebase with real users, shipping small daily iterations. You won't be alone: our development partner continues to support architecture, security, and overflow, so you have people to think with.
The Candidate Side. Make it a true two-sided marketplace. Today the portal is built for firms. You'll design and build the candidate-facing side, where candidates apply, get vetted, build profiles, and move through the process inside the product.
AI in the Product. Build it in, not around. Ship candidate matching, resume and profile parsing, vetting assistants, and LLM-driven workflows for firms and recruiters. Real features for real users, with the testing and monitoring habits that make them trustworthy.
Business Automation. Then, automate the business. Once the portal is humming, the mandate widens to our recruiting funnel, weekly scorecard, HubSpot, and Slack, with agents and automations that let a 45-person team run like 150.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Roughly 6+ years as a full-stack engineer, shipping and maintaining production web applications (required)
Comfort being the primary engineer on a product, with a partner agency behind you (required)
Daily use of AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or equivalent, and the ability to show it live (required)
Strong product thinking: you can turn feedback, ideas, and a backlog into clear priorities without a PM (required)
Fluent English, written and spoken, including writing specs and docs (required)
At least 4–5 hours of daily overlap with U.S. Eastern/Central hours (required)
Availability for full-time, exclusive work, with no concurrent clients or contracts (required)
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Experience inheriting someone else's production codebase and making it your own
Experience shipping LLM-powered features to real users, with an evaluation or QA loop, not just demos
Experience with a two-sided marketplace, a recruiting/HR product, or a vetting/screening workflow
Experience integrating with HubSpot, Slack, or similar business systems
Experience with a U.S. company or U.S.-facing product
Practical understanding of security and compliance (we are SOC 2 in progress)
YOUR TEAM
You report directly to the CEO, who is the product owner and will hand you a written backlog on day one.
Our U.S. team is in-office in Indianapolis with a strong in-person culture, and our recruiting team is in the Philippines.
You'll be a remote member of a team that talks a lot, so writing well matters.
HOW WE WORK
Quality First. Every feature that ships is tested, monitored, and ready for real users.
Security Matters. Candidate, client, and company information is handled with the highest level of confidentiality, and we build with security and compliance in mind.
Reliable Collaboration. We work closely through Slack, Zoom, shared documentation, and predictable communication rhythms, even across time zones.
Own the Outcome. We don't just ship code. We own the result, close loops, and raise issues before they become problems.
Continuous Improvement. We move fast and iterate constantly. The portal should be a little better every week than it was the week before.
WHY CAS IS DIFFERENT
We are not a gig platform. We are not a freelance marketplace. We are not short-term staffing.
We aren't looking for someone to work through tickets on the side. We're looking for someone who wants to own the product at the center of our business for years.
At CAS, you'll enjoy:
$5,000–$7,000 USD per month, based on experience and location
Equipment stipend
Paid time off aligned with your country's norms
A direct reporting line to the CEO
A development partner behind you for architecture, security, and overflow
Permanent remote work from anywhere in Latin America
A long-term, full-time engagement
A culture built around ownership, continuous learning, and innovation
CONTRACT & EXCLUSIVITY
This is an independent contractor engagement based in Latin America. Full-time exclusivity is required — one client, us. Candidates must not hold other clients, contracts, or freelance engagements once hired. Conflict-of-interest checks may apply.
