Staff Software Engineer
Job Description
SUSE is seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our core Rancher team. This team maintains the Rancher product, including its security, scalability, authentication and authorization systems.
Our organization within SUSE is responsible for the Rancher product suite. We build open-source software that addresses the operational and security challenges of managing cloud native platforms like Kubernetes, while providing DevOps teams with integrated tools for running containerized workloads. Our flagship product SUSE Rancher has over 100 million downloads to-date and is managing mission critical services at Fortune 500 companies and many other organizations large and small around the world.
In this role, you will be part of a team of passionate engineers working to build and maintain our enterprise Kubernetes management system. Our goal is to make Rancher the premiere tool for deploying, managing, and operating Kubernetes and containerized workloads across on-prem datacenters, public clouds, and the edge.
Responsibilities:
Apply your unique mastery and recognized authority in relevant subject matter, including technologies, theories, and techniques related to Kubernetes, cloud-native, and distributed systems, to solve the complex challenges for the Rancher product.
Significantly contribute to the development of new ideas that shape the future direction of our technology and the industry.
Provide expert-level mentoring and guidance to engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation across the organization.
Routinely exercise independent judgment in developing novel methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for achieving critical objectives.
Contribute to the development of strategy and help set functional policy and technical direction within your area of expertise.
Play a key role in recruiting and actively support the development of talent within the engineering organization.

A deep understanding of the broader technology landscape and the ability to anticipate future trends and their implications for the Rancher product and the company.
A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent exceptional professional experience and recognition.
