Structural Engineer | 15+ Years

WJE's New York City office is located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, just steps (or a subway ride) from many of our iconic local projects. Bring your problem-solving mindset, ownership mentality, and deep technical expertise to a team that is genuinely excited about their work and invested in each other’s success.

We are seeking a senior-level Structural Engineer (Associate Principal) to join our multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and preservationists.

You'll have a sharp team of associates supporting you and direct access to mentorship of your own from industry-recognized senior leaders across the company.

As an employee-owner at WJE, you will have the autonomy to shape your career while mentoring the next generation of structural engineers. You will be supported by an organization offering industry-leading benefits, dedicated administrative resources, a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, and access to WJE’s collective expertise and state-of-the-art laboratory and testing capabilities

Responsibilities:

• Project management, including client development, project scoping, assembling and managing project teams, maintaining project schedules, budgets, and financials, and managing client expectations and deliverables
• Mentorship, including exemplifying WJE’s culture of shared destiny and knowledge sharing to better the team around you: locally and company-wide, formally and informally, on-and-off projects, for technical topics and overall career development
• Contributions to structural engineering practice and company-wide objectives, including proactively fostering new and existing client relationships in pursuit of project work you are excited about; engaging the next generation of WJE professionals; collaborating with practice leaders on knowledge-sharing and training initiatives; and participating in industry outreach, professional organizations, conferences, and technical committees

Qualifications:

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of New York; Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) a plus
• Master's degree in civil/structural engineering or related field
• Minimum fifteen years of relevant industry experience, including technical and project management, with demonstrated expertise in problem-solving, condition assessment, failure investigation, analysis, and repair design of various structural materials, systems, and construction types (e.g., concretepost-tensioned, precast, and cast-in-place), clay masonry, CMU, structural steel, stainless steel, wood, etc.). This minimum may flex for candidates already operating at this level of responsibility.
• Demonstrated business development and client relationship skills, with first-hand experience in the New York market
• Excellent technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills
