Kalshi has defined a new category: prediction markets. Kalshi allows people to trade on the outcome of any events and turn any question about the future into a financial asset. Kalshi fought for years and legalized prediction markets in the US for the first time in history, is currently the fastest growing financial market in America, and has thousands of markets across politics, economics, financials, weather, tech, AI, culture and more.
We believe prediction markets have the potential to be the largest financial market because they turn anything into a financial position.
Our vision: well… build the largest financial market on the planet.
Our mission: bring more truth to the world through the power of markets.
Our culture is simple: we hire really talented people, work really hard, and enjoy the climb. We are looking for ambitious and exceptional people to join our (relatively small) team to help us build the next generation of financial markets.
As Kalshi scales, we are looking for an experienced tax professional to build and own the tax function across the company.
You will own federal and state income tax compliance, state tax examinations, ASC 740 provision support, excise and transaction-tax positions, information reporting, international tax planning, and relationships with external tax advisors.
This is a builder role for someone who wants to create a tax function rather than inherit one.
Own federal, state, indirect, and international tax matters across Kalshi's entities
Oversee federal consolidated and multistate income tax compliance and manage relationships with external tax preparers
Take end-to-end ownership of state tax examinations and controversy matters, including response strategy, document production, deadlines, and coordination with outside advisors
Develop and maintain Kalshi's positions on federal and state excise and transaction-based taxes, including research, documentation, and monitoring of regulatory developments
Own ASC 740 tax provision support and tax-related financial statement disclosures in partnership with Technical Accounting
Build and maintain a comprehensive tax calendar covering federal, state, international, and information-reporting obligations
Drive tax planning for new products, new markets, international expansion, and entity-structuring decisions
Evaluate VAT, GST, withholding, transfer pricing, nexus, and apportionment considerations as the business expands
Own information reporting, including 1099 processes and customer tax documentation
Direct and challenge external tax advisors, including PwC and EY, while managing scopes, budgets, and auditor-independence requirements
Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and business teams on novel tax questions in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment
Determine how the tax function should evolve over time, including what capabilities should remain outsourced and where Kalshi should build internally
10–15 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, industry, or a combination of both
Active US CPA
Deep corporate income tax expertise with hands-on ASC 740 experience in a PCAOB-audited environment
Strong multistate and SALT experience, including meaningful exposure to tax audits, examinations, or controversy
Experience operating in complex, transaction-heavy businesses; financial services, fintech, exchanges, or similar environments are particularly relevant
The ability to independently develop and defend tax positions where precedent may be limited or evolving
Experience directing Big 4 or other external advisors and the judgment to challenge recommendations rather than simply defer to them
Strong written communication skills and experience producing tax positions and documentation that can withstand scrutiny from auditors and tax authorities
Comfort operating in a highly regulated environment and partnering with Legal when tax issues intersect with regulatory or litigation matters
A builder mentality and willingness to operate as the primary in-house tax expert while establishing the function
Exposure to excise taxes, transaction-based taxes, and information reporting is strongly preferred
International tax experience, including VAT/GST, withholding, or transfer pricing, is a plus
Experience preparing a company for an IPO or operating within a public-company tax function is a strong plus
Salary Range: $200,000 to $300,000 annually plus equity and benefits. This range reflects current market data for this role. Kalshi has minimal hierarchy and broad variance in experience levels within each title; if your compensation expectations exceed this range, we encourage you to reach out - we’re always happy to discuss.
Meritocracy is at our core, and we value people who take ownership and figure (usually hard) things out. We dream big. We love our craft deeply and are proud of what we put out in the world. We are committed to our vision of building something big… but also useful: a product that brings more truth through the power of markets.
Kalshians are Kalshi’s most important asset: we pick Kalshians carefully, so we trust them fully on day 1.
Kalshi is committed to creating a culture of inclusion and belonging, and we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We believe it is our collective responsibility to uphold these values and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to join us in our mission. All qualified applicants will be treated with respect and receive equal consideration for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, uniform service, veteran status, age, or any other protected characteristic per federal, state, or local law. If you are passionate about what you do and want to use your talents to support our mission and values, we’d love to hear from you.
