ABOUT VEG

In 2014, VEG was born with a mission to help people and their pets when they need it most. Since then, we’ve expanded across the U.S. and into Canada, with hospitals open 24/7, 365 days a year. At VEG do things differently, from having open-concept hospitals, where you can handle emergency cases of all kinds (even exotics!), to creating an emergency experience that gives customers and patients the care they deserve.

We’ve also created a better experience for everyone who works here—our VEGgies! At VEG we find a way to say yes to the career you want in veterinary emergency medicine. Yes to working in an environment where you can find your place and feel valued for the amazing work you do. Yes to having unparalleled opportunities for learning and mentorship so you can grow where you want to go in your career. And yes to having a voice—and the support—to make an impact here in ways you never thought possible.

THE JOB

As a Veterinary Sonographer, your focus is on ultrasound support for VEG hospitals and training facilities. This means working closely with our emergency doctors to provide same-day ultrasound scans for pets when they need it most. You’ll deal with a variety of patient types and scans, so being comfortable adapting to new scenarios and willing to learn new techniques and think outside the box are all part of your day-to-day. You’ll also assist in coordinating education opportunities and overall ultrasound training for your home and regional hospitals, inspire and motivate your fellow VEGgies to grow their ultrasound skills, and be ready to pitch in at the hospital whenever and wherever needed.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at your home hospital and regional hospitals
• Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists reading your studies (e.g., Antech, SonoPath, IDEXX, VetsChoice, etc.)
• Ensure all training content and activities are in alignment with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques
• Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist
• Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation practices to modify and enhance VEG’s ultrasound training programs
• Regularly meet with the medical directors, nursing trainer, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and additional needs
• Regularly meet with the hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and interpersonal concerns
• Coordinate weekly schedule to work on the floor shifts with the hospital manager and medical director and dedicate time to training responsibilities
• May assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material, such as PowerPoints, videos, simulations, and assessments to be implemented across the doctor and nursing team training programs
• May provide educational demonstrations for doctors and support staff at other VEGs, including ultrasound topics, such as abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, and musculoskeletal studies

WHAT YOU NEED:

• Credentialed as a veterinary technician (RVT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), and/or equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates)
• 3+ years of veterinary ultrasound experience
• Patience to train and develop doctors, support staff, and fellow sonographers
• Previous experience in a training role
• Comfortable mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues
• A positive and friendly personality
• Ability to adapt to changing environments; a team player
• Love working with animals and people
• Excellent communication skills with peers, customers, and VEGgies
• Embrace the VEG Way and be excited to share your perspective and experience
• Ability to recognize and celebrate other VEGgies’ successes when you see it
• Eagerness to grow as a sonographer through skills and knowledge development
• Desire to travel to regional hospitals and off-site training facilities (e.g., Fort Collins, CO; Las Vegas, NV; White Plains, NY, etc.)

HOW WE INVEST IN YOU

• Competitive compensation ($36-52/hr), potential for bonus, and company RRSP Matching Program
• 3 weeks vacation
• Comprehensive health and wellness benefits, including Employee Assistance Program
• Depending on your role, you may be eligible for a transaction bonus after one year of full-time, active employment with VEG, so you can share in our growth and success
• A BIG focus on learning and growth, from VEG-created clinical and leadership programs to unlimited ER CE + travel stipend (no really!). Full-time credentialed VEGgies receive a $2,500/year travel stipend. Full-time uncredentialed VEGgies receive a $1,000/year travel stipend.
• VEG will support up to 10 weeks of top-up for parental leave
• Flexible work schedules to support your life outside of work
• Generous referral reward program, so our awesome people can bring in more awesome people
• And the little (big) things, like comfy scrubs, cool VEG swag, and food in the fridge for when you’re hungry
