Position: AI Product Management Intern
Location: KEEN’s Global Headquarters in Portland, Oregon (on-site)
Duration: 10 weeks
Compensation: $22/hour
Program Duration: Monday, June 14th – Friday, August 20th
What You'll Do
As an Intern at KEEN (KEENtern), you’ll dive into the exciting world of footwear, innovation, and community! You’ll get hands-on experience working alongside industry experts and contribute to shaping the future of KEEN.
As an AI Product Management KEENtern, you’ll help KEEN identify, design, test, and scale practical ways AI can make a meaningful difference for KEENers, our fans, and the business.
You’ll work across teams to understand how work happens today, where friction or opportunity exists, and where AI could help create better outcomes. You’ll turn those insights into clear opportunities, prototypes, pilots, and recommendations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Partner with teams across KEEN to map workflows, understand pain points, and identify high-potential AI opportunities.
- Research emerging AI capabilities, tools, and relevant examples from consumer, retail, footwear, and other industries.
- Help define AI use cases, including the problem to solve, intended users, desired outcomes, risks, data needs, and measures of success.
- Help document pilots, lessons learned, adoption signals, and potential business value for leadership and project teams.
- Create practical materials—such as playbooks, workflow maps, use-case briefs, training resources, or communications—that make new ways of working easier to understand and adopt.
- Contribute to responsible AI practices with privacy, security, accuracy, bias, brand, and human oversight in project work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business, Psychology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Operations, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, product management, process improvement, innovation, or digital transformation.
- Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt design, AI agents, and core concepts such as model limitations, evaluation, data quality, and human oversight; ideally demonstrated through hands-on projects, prototypes, coursework, research, or work experience building with AI.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to solve problems, analyze information, synthesize findings, and turn them into clear recommendations.
- Commitment to responsible handling of confidential information and sound judgment when using AI tools.
What We’re Looking For:
- We’re looking for a curious, action-oriented KEENtern who wants to help shape how work gets done in alignment with a human-centered and responsible AI approach
- You see AI as more than a tool for doing today’s work faster. You’re interested in asking better questions: What could be simpler? What could be smarter? What could become possible if we redesigned the workflow from the ground up?
- You bring a builder’s mindset. You are comfortable moving from ambiguity to action, listening closely to people’s real challenges, and turning ideas into practical experiments. You can balance optimism about emerging technology with sound judgment about people, brand, privacy, and responsible use.
- You believe the best use of AI makes people more capable—not less human. You’re excited to help KEENers spend less time on repetitive work and more time creating, solving problems, making better decisions, and delivering better outcomes for our fans and the planet.
We’re seeking someone who embodies our passion for creativity, sustainability, and the great outdoors. Our ideal KEENtern is:
- Passionate: Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, committed to sustainability, or fascinated by footwear trends and innovation, you’re excited to engage with the world around you.
- Creatively Minded: You’re detail-oriented, love bringing fresh ideas to life, and have a knack for solving problems.
- A Strong Communicator: Whether it’s collaborating with a team or presenting ideas, you know how to express yourself clearly and effectively.
- Proactive & Eager to Learn: You’re curious, ready to ask questions, take initiative, and dive into new challenges with enthusiasm.
