This role is responsible for supporting and coordinating the delivery, migration, implementation, testing, and operation of enterprise-scale data platforms on Alibaba Cloud. The role also leads a squad team for project delivery, ensuring assigned work is planned, tracked, executed, and delivered according to defined architecture, standards, timelines, and quality expectations.
Responsibilities
- Execute Enterprise Data Lake Migration Activities
Support Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) migration initiatives from legacy cloud and on-premise platforms to Alibaba Cloud by delivering assigned data engineering tasks according to agreed scope, timeline, quality standards, and project priorities.
- Lead Squad-level Project Delivery
- Lead a small squad team of Data Engineers and associated project resources.
- Own daily execution management of the squad.
- Ensure delivery commitments are achieved.
- Monitor team velocity and workload distribution.
- Escalate risks and blockers proactively.
- Support junior engineers through technical coaching and guidance.
- Implement Data Engineering Solutions
Design, develop, configure, and enhance data ingestion, transformation, integration, and processing pipelines for batch and real-time workloads, following approved solution designs and engineering best practices.
- Deliver Data Pipelines and Platform Components
Build and maintain data pipelines, ETL/ELT jobs, data models, scheduling workflows, validation scripts, and reusable engineering components across DataWorks, MaxCompute, Flink, Hologres, OSS, and related Alibaba Cloud services. - Support Migration Execution
Participate in migration planning and execution activities, including source-to-target mapping, data extraction, data loading, reconciliation, validation, cutover preparation, environment setup, defect fixing, and post-migration support. - Coordinate Cross-functional Delivery
Work closely with Data Architects, Senior Data Engineers, Business Analysts, QA Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Cloud Infrastructure Teams, and application teams to clarify requirements, assign follow-up actions, resolve blockers, and deliver project outcomes. - Apply Data Governance and Quality Controls
Implement metadata, lineage, data quality, data security, privacy, and access control requirements within assigned data engineering deliverables, ensuring solutions follow enterprise governance and compliance standards. - Support Production Operations
Monitor jobs and data pipelines, troubleshoot incidents, support release deployments, perform root cause analysis, optimize performance, and contribute to SLA, KPI, capacity, and cost management activities. - Create Technical Documentation and Delivery Updates
Prepare and maintain technical specifications, runbooks, data mapping documents, test evidence, deployment notes, operational support documentation, squad delivery status updates, issue logs, and risk summaries.
Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience
Mandatory
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform, Data Warehouse, or Data Management domains.
- Hands-on experience delivering data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, data migration tasks, or cloud data platform implementation activities.
- Experience supporting Enterprise Data Lake, Data Warehouse, ODS, or Data Modernization projects.
- Experience coordinating small squads, workstreams, or delivery teams for project execution is preferred.
- Strong delivery discipline across requirements clarification, development, unit testing, system testing support, deployment, and production support.
Alibaba Cloud Expertise
- Hands-on delivery experience with the Alibaba Cloud data ecosystem, including several of the following:
- Mandatory
- DataWorks, MaxCompute, Flink, ODSS
- Strongly Preferred
- Hologres, Kafka, DLF
- Nice to Have
- AnalyticDB, EMR and PAI.
- Experience implementing data pipelines, workflows, tables, jobs, and operational processes on Alibaba Cloud is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Good understanding of Enterprise Data Lake architecture, ODS/DWD/DWS/ADS layering, dimensional modeling, batch and real-time data processing, data integration, and data governance concepts.
- Hands-on experience with Advanced SQL, Python, ETL Development, Data Modeling, Data Testing, Spark, Flink, Kafka/DataHub, CDC technologies, API integration, and cloud-native data engineering tools is highly desirable.
Migration Experience
- Experience supporting cloud migration execution, data reconciliation and validation, migration testing, cutover preparation, and post-migration issue resolution.
- Experience in financial services, insurance, or highly regulated industries is preferred.
Production Support
- Experience supporting production incidents and performing root cause analysis in large-scale data platforms.
- Experience optimizing job performance, stability, recoverability, and operational efficiency.
Collaboration and Delivery
- Strong ownership of assigned delivery tasks and ability to follow through to completion.
- Ability to lead a squad team in day-to-day project execution, including task assignment, progress tracking, blocker follow-up, and delivery coordination.
- Good collaboration skills with architects, senior engineers, business analysts, QA, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, analyze root causes, and propose practical fixes.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders on delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and blockers.
Communication
- Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to prepare clear technical documentation, delivery updates, test evidence, issue summaries, squad status updates, and risk or dependency reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Enterprise Data Lake migration or implementation programs involving Azure, AWS, GCP, or Alibaba Cloud, including DataWorks, MaxCompute, Flink, Hologres, and related data governance processes.
- Experience in Insurance, Banking, Financial Services, or other highly regulated industries is preferred.
- Alibaba Cloud certification, data engineering certification, cloud certification, or equivalent professional certification is a plus.
- Experience building reusable data pipelines, job templates, validation scripts, monitoring checks, or operational runbooks is a plus.
- Experience following enterprise data platform standards, architecture guidelines, migration templates, and governance controls is preferred.
