Job Title: DIRECTOR OR SENIOR DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT (REAL-WORLD DATA AND REAL-WORLD EVIDENCE)
Your Impact:
As the Director of Business Development, you will be a high-impact sales leader responsible for driving new revenue generation by securing large, multi-year Real-World Data agreements and Real-World Evidence (RWE) projects. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, you will serve as a principal individual contributor bringing an entrepreneurial "hunter" drive to build a high-growth book of business from the ground up. You will combine consultative selling skills with the executive presence necessary to navigate complex political dynamics within top-tier Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, and CRO organizations. By architecting data solutions that address critical research pain points, you will directly impact the rapid expansion and market leadership of Verana Health.
Your Core Focus:
- Revenue Generation & Lifecycle Management: Manage every facet of the sales lifecycle—from lead generation and prospecting through contract execution—to secure large-scale, multi-year RWE agreements and exceed annual revenue targets.
- Consultative Solutioning & Deal Execution: Partner with clients to understand their scientific goals and architect tailored, end-to-end data solutions. Lead high-stakes presentations, coordinate RFI/RFP responses, and develop high-quality proposals and Statements of Work (SOWs).
- Strategic Account & Executive Relationship Management: Build and nurture deep relationships with key decision-makers across assigned accounts, gaining critical visibility into organizational dynamics to position Verana as a trusted strategic partner.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal Product, Data, and Operations teams to maintain complete fluency in Verana’s product offerings and ensure seamless alignment from pre-sales through contract close.
- Pipeline Governance & Market Ambassadorship: Build and manage a rigorous personal sales funnel to provide executive leadership with accurate, data-driven forecasts while acting as an external brand champion at industry events.
Who You Are:
- Inclusive, Collaborative, and Diverse Leader: You thrive on a balanced variety of perspectives. By keeping an open mind and actively fostering inclusion, you collaborate through tough conversations to build consensus, turning diverse viewpoints into organizational strengths.
- Deeply Responsible and Accountable: You take full ownership of your actions and strategic decisions. You operate with confidence and thorough due diligence, holding yourself explicitly accountable for the outcomes and consequences that affect Verana’s projects, partners, and patients.
- Grounded in Integrity and Authenticity: You practice honesty, transparency, and strong ethical principles, even in the face of adversity. By standing up for what is right and treating everyone with respect, you help cultivate a safe, high-trust environment where team members can bring their full selves to work—and have fun doing it.
- Customer-First and Innovatively Minded: You put the customer first by listening to feedback with agility and sensitivity. Rather than simply reacting to the market, you look to innovate to stay ahead of their needs, ensuring that our partners and clients remain the heroes of their own stories. Recognize that the Verana Health customer includes life science companies, physician groups and health systems that provide data, major medical organizations, and ultimately patients themselves.
- Driven by Meaningful End-Results: You focus on the final destination, prioritizing both the quantifiable deliverables and the ultimate societal impact of your work. You define success by providing qualified, meaningful value and insights, consistently delivering on your commitments exactly as promised.
Your Blueprint for Success:
- Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of professional sales experience specifically targeting Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, and CRO organizations.
- Demonstrated track record of success in meeting or exceeding quotas through the sale of complex technical solutions and data offerings.
- Deep knowledge of the Real-World Data (RWD) and Real-World Evidence (RWE) landscape, including its historical evolution, current trajectory, and future impact on medical research.
- Entrepreneurial "hunter" mentality with proven resilience and agility to build a large book of business in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Strong executive credibility and business acumen required to lead high-stakes meetings and navigate strategic account dynamics.
- Proven ability to problem-solve and architect customized solutions addressing critical customer pain points.
Any of these experiences would add value but are not essential for success:
- Established network of active contacts within RWE-focused departments at major Life Sciences companies.
- Prior experience delivering advanced, data-driven platforms that address condition-specific clinical research.
Salary Range: $147,054 - $183,818 (A geographic premium may be applied to base salary)
Final note:
You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position. Here at Verana, we know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills.
