Use Your Power for Purpose
The International Supply Chain Cluster Lead, Director (Developed APAC) is the dedicated Supply Chain Business Partner for the Developed APAC GH&B International cluster and is an extended member of the relevant Commercial Leadership Team. As a member of the Commercial Cluster Leadership Team, the role works in close collaboration with the Commercial leaders, P&L owners and wider leadership team members as the senior supply chain counterpart, bringing supply chain insight into commercial decisions and plans.
The SC Cluster Lead is accountable for supply chain performance across all assigned markets and for the integrated cluster supply chain outcome. The role leads cluster supply chain planning and decision-making, owns and chairs the Demand Review and Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process, and partners with Commercial to drive ownership of forecast performance and the quality of the demand signal. Working day-to-day with the Commercial team, the SC Cluster Lead translates commercial strategy and commitments into executable supply, inventory and mitigation plans.
The SC Cluster Lead is the senior escalation and decision point for supply, prioritisation and inventory risks. The role resolves issues within its authority, brings material trade-offs to cluster IBP with a clear recommendation, and escalates unresolved, cross-cluster or systemic issues to International IBP. The role mobilises the full GH&B and GSC enterprise capabilities and navigates in all levels of organization as needed.
Beyond the assigned cluster scope, the role supports Commercial in designing and evolving partner- and distributor-led supply models, owns a material GH&B International process or strategic capability, and is expected to take on future line-management responsibility for approximately five Market Supply Chain Planners. The role may also establish and lead future GH&B Hub operations.
The role operates through a deliberately lean, AI-enabled model: routine work is automated, shifted to Commercial self-service or delivered through shared services and/or service hub, freeing the SC Cluster Lead to focus on judgement-intensive decisions, enterprise trade-offs and value creation across a complex, high-SKU portfolio. This is a senior leadership role requiring autonomous operation in a global matrix and the ability to combine strategic influence with hands-on resolution of critical business issues.
Leadership Scope
The SC Cluster Lead owns the full core mandate and the following leadership scope in addition to the accountabilities below:
- Distribution and partnership models: support Commercial in designing and evolving partner- and distributor-led models, including governance and increased automation.
- International leadership: own a material GH&B International process or strategic capability and shape standards, KPIs and implementation across all clusters.
- People and capability leadership: expected to take on future line-management responsibility for approximately five Market Supply Chain Planners and potentially establish and lead future GH&B Hub operations.
What You Will Achieve
1. Commercial Partnership, Demand Governance and IBP
- Own, chair and continuously improve the cluster Demand Review and IBP process, with clear decision rights, cadence, data standards, escalation thresholds and decision follow-through.
- Partner with Commercial to drive ownership of forecast error, bias, Forecast Value Add (FVA), assumption quality and timely enrichment; use root-cause analysis to distinguish model, enrichment and execution drivers.
- Translate commercial strategy, tenders, launches and customer commitments into supply chain priorities and ensure supply feasibility is assessed before material commitments.
- Connect decisions to revenue, margin, working capital and patient or customer impact; bring unresolved trade-offs to the appropriate decision forum with a clear recommendation.
2. Supply Performance, Inventory and Risk
- Own service and supply performance, inventory value and months-on-hand, working capital, write-offs and obsolescence, and supply-risk mitigation across assigned direct and non-direct markets.
- Mobilise the appropriate GH&B and GSC capabilities to orchestrate the end-to-end plant-to-patient supply chain and ensure reliable product flow, effective inventory deployment and timely resolution of supply and service risks
- Prioritise Proactively Managed and locally critical products; apply segmentation, automation and exception-based controls to lower-priority products within agreed risk thresholds.
- Lead resolution of significant backorders, allocation conflicts and inventory trade-offs; escalate cross-cluster or systemic issues through International IBP.
3. International and Strategic Leadership
- Own one or more material GH&B International processes or strategic capabilities, setting standards, governance and KPIs and driving implementation across all clusters.
- Lead cluster initiatives such as portfolio and SKU optimisation, tender strategy, launches, lifecycle transitions, network changes and market-specific supply models.
- Identify and unlock supply chain-enabled growth opportunities, build financially grounded business cases, and lead the cross-functional decisions required to deliver them with senior Commercial, GSC, PGS and Finance stakeholders.
- Carry assigned enterprise scope including distribution- and partnership-model leadership and development of potential GH&B Hub operations.
4. AI-Enabled Operating Model and Enterprise Orchestration
- Establish Commercial self-service for demand-facing activities, ensuring appropriate capabilities, access, training, decision rights and standard work.
- Partner with Global Demand Intelligence (GDI) to develop and continuously improve AI-based forecasting models that reflect GH&B-specific business dynamics, including tenders, supply-constrained demand, partnership models, portfolio changes, competitor stock outs and other material demand drivers.
- Use approved enterprise AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot and Claude where available and appropriate, to accelerate analysis, scenario evaluation, knowledge work and decision preparation.
- Identify, develop, configure and scale fit-for-purpose AI agents and AI-enabled workflows for repeatable planning, monitoring and analysis, partnering with Digital, data and process owners where specialist support is required.
- Drive adoption of GDI and AI-based forecasting, disciplined enrichment and override thresholds, and Supply IQ self-service where applicable.
- Govern shared-service delivery through agreed SLAs and continuously automate, eliminate or simplify transactional work.
- Use AI responsibly: validate outputs, protect confidential information, maintain appropriate human oversight and remain accountable for AI-enabled work products and actions.
5. Matrix Leadership and Continuous Improvement
- Operate autonomously across GH&B Commercial, GSC, PGS Operating Units, External Supply, Quality, Regulatory and Finance; resolve operational conflicts and create alignment across functions and geographies.
- Synthesise complex commercial, operational and financial evidence into clear, executive-ready recommendations.
- Drive IMEx routines, visual management, standard work and a measurable continuous-improvement pipeline for the cluster.
- Shape and embed the interfaces and ways of working for this newly created role.
Measures of Success
- Patients: reliable plant-to-patient supply that supports the right medicine reaching the right place at the right time, with quality, reliability and availability reflected in fewer and shorter patient-impacting supply interruptions.
- Revenue, growth and IBT: revenue enabled or protected through supply availability and risk mitigation; growth unlocked through portfolio, tender and supply-model opportunities; and positive IBT contribution through margin, inventory, cost and write-off improvements.
- Demand and IBP governance: forecast error and bias, FVA, assumption quality, decision quality and follow-through.
- Supply and service: availability, critical-product continuity, constraint visibility, reliability of supply commitments and mitigation effectiveness.
- Inventory and cash: inventory value, months-on-hand, working capital, ageing, write-offs and obsolescence.
- Escalation effectiveness: speed, ageing, decision quality and recurrence.
- Transformation: Commercial self-service, AI and Supply IQ adoption, automation coverage, shared-service SLA performance and reduction in transactional workload.
- Enterprise leadership: delivery and measurable business impact of assigned International processes, strategic capabilities and wider leadership responsibilities.
