This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Patient Financial Advocate based in United States.
This is a patient-focused financial counseling role supporting individuals who need help understanding and managing healthcare costs.
You will guide patients through payment responsibilities, insurance benefits, financial assistance options, and available payment arrangements.
The role combines financial counseling, insurance coordination, collections support, and patient advocacy.
You will help identify and resolve issues involving registration, billing, authorizations, claims, and financial assistance programs.
Strong communication and empathy are essential when working with patients and families about sensitive financial matters.
The position is fully remote, while candidates must reside in the Northeast Ohio area and work a daytime schedule.
Your work will directly contribute to a smoother financial experience for patients while supporting accurate and timely revenue-cycle processes.
Counsel patients and responsible parties regarding healthcare payment responsibilities, available options, and financial assistance.
Explain estimated service costs, payment expectations, collection procedures, and available financial assistance programs.
Review insurance benefits and recommend alternative payment sources or assistance options when appropriate.
Contact insurance carriers and other relevant sources to advocate for patients and help resolve financial or coverage questions.
Initiate and follow up on required prepayments to support timely and accurate collections.
Identify and resolve issues related to patient registration, financial clearance, insurance authorization requirements, billing, explanations of benefits, provider-based billing, and collections.
Support patients with questions related to government requirements, financial assistance policies and restrictions, online account services, and payment processes.
Maintain accurate and complete documentation in the appropriate computer and financial systems.
Provide professional, compassionate, and clear communication when discussing sensitive financial matters with patients and families.
Work effectively within established financial counseling, patient-service, privacy, and healthcare procedures.
High school diploma or GED plus at least 3 years of experience in a customer-facing role involving in-person or telephone interactions; or
Associate’s degree plus 2 years of relevant customer-facing experience; or
Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of relevant customer-facing experience.
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial and insurance information clearly.
Ability to listen actively, understand individual circumstances, and provide appropriate guidance with professionalism and empathy.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to accuracy and documentation.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining productivity, responsiveness, and service quality.
Ability to navigate computer systems and office technology while accurately documenting patient and financial information.
Preferred experience in an inbound call center environment.
Preferred experience in healthcare collections or medical claims.
An associate’s or bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information and remain stationary while performing computer-based work for extended periods.
Candidates must reside in the Northeast Ohio area.
Fully remote work arrangement.
Daytime schedule of 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
