**COMPANY OVERVIEW**
Craftwork is building a modern, technology-enabled home services company, starting with residential painting. We employ our painters full-time and manage the entire customer experience using proprietary software, which allows us to consistently deliver excellent quality and service while creating meaningful careers in the trades.
Founded in 2023, Craftwork currently operates in Charlotte and Raleigh, with plans to expand into three new markets over the next 12 months. We’ve grown to nearly 80 employees and have raised over $25M from investors including Y Combinator, Seven Seven Six, Slow Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, General Catalyst, and Lachy Groom.
**POSITION OVERVIEW**
Craftwork is looking for a React Native Engineer to own and evolve the mobile experience used by our field teams every day.
Our crew mobile app is one of the most important software products in our ecosystem. It sits directly in the hands of our painters and market managers, supporting the workflows they rely on to deliver a consistently great customer experience including project management, customer and team communication, time and attendance, and field execution. As Craftwork expands into new markets, this person will help ensure the app becomes increasingly reliable, intuitive, and capable as the field organization grows.
A central part of this role will be building thoughtful, high-quality mobile experiences in React Native. You’ll work across the full mobile product lifecycle, from understanding how work actually happens in the field, to shaping product solutions, implementing them, shipping them, and continuously improving them based on real usage and feedback.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership engineering role. The right person will care deeply about the people using what they build, spend meaningful time with our crews to understand their workflows, and sweat the details required to make software feel simple in a complex operating environment. The goal is not simply to ship features, but to build a reliable mobile experience that ensures every Craftworker is informed, capable, and effective in the field.
**OUTCOMES**
**Ship High-Quality Mobile Product Experiences**
* You’ll design and ship thoughtful, intuitive mobile experiences that solve meaningful problems for our painters and field leaders.
* You’ll own features from initial problem definition through design, development, launch, iteration, and measurable improvement.
* You’ll sweat the details of usability, edge cases, and polish.
**Build a Scalable Mobile Application**
* You’ll build a maintainable React Native application that can support increasing product complexity, field usage, and market expansion.
* You’ll design for the realities of field usage, including inconsistent connectivity, device variability, and workflows employees depend on throughout the workday.
* You’ll make sound mobile architecture decisions that balance speed, simplicity, performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
**Elevate Mobile Reliability & Performance**
* You’ll reduce crashes, bugs, and performance issues across the mobile app through thoughtful engineering practices and proactive technical improvements.
* You’ll implement appropriate testing, monitoring, and observability so that issues across devices and critical field workflows are identified, diagnosed, and resolved quickly.
**Raise the Engineering Quality Bar**
* You’ll write clean, thoughtful, testable code and contribute to engineering standards that improve the quality of the codebase over time.
* You’ll actively participate in code reviews, technical decisions, and knowledge sharing.
* You’ll help create a culture where quality, maintainability, and thoughtful execution are shared expectations across the engineering team.
**Improve Cross-Functional Collaboration**
* You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Operations and our field teams to turn real operational problems into clear, effective mobile solutions.
* You’ll communicate tradeoffs, scope, and progress clearly while helping the team move from ambiguity to shipped product quickly.
**Create a Product That Gets Better Over Time**
* You’ll stay close to the crews using what we build, spending meaningful time in the field to understand how the app performs within their actual workflows.
* You’ll proactively identify friction, opportunities, and improvements rather than treating a feature as finished once it ships.
* You’ll use crew feedback, product data, and direct field observation to continuously improve the mobile experience.
**COMPETENCIES**
**Zero-to-One Builder**
* You’re comfortable turning ambiguous problems into clear technical solutions.
* You’re energized by building new systems, features, and workflows from scratch.
**Technical Depth**
* You bring deep experience building production mobile applications in React Native.
* You’re highly proficient in TypeScript and comfortable integrating mobile applications with APIs, backend services, and native device capabilities.
* You understand the realities of shipping and maintaining applications across iOS and Android, including performance, releases, and device variability.
**Product Judgement**
* You care deeply about the quality and usability of what you build.
* You can translate field workflows and user problems into intuitive mobile experiences.
* You consider mobile interaction patterns, edge cases, and environmental constraints when making product decisions.
**Systems Thinking**
* You understand how the mobile app fits into Craftwork’s broader product ecosystem and consider dependencies, data flow, scalability, and downstream consequences before making decisions.
* You look for opportunities to solve root causes rather than patching symptoms.
**Quality & Reliability Mindset**
* You take pride in writing clean, maintainable code and shipping dependable software.
* You think proactively about testing, application performance, connectivity, and reliability across devices and operating systems.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration**
* You communicate clearly with Product, Design, Operations, field teams, and other engineers throughout the development process.
* You’re comfortable challenging assumptions, explaining technical tradeoffs, and working through disagreement constructively.
* You build trust by being dependable and accountable for the outcomes you own.
**Continuous Improvement**
* You’re naturally curious about how the mobile app is used, seek feedback, spend meaningful time with our crews, and use what you learn to improve what we build.
* You continuously look for ways to improve the mobile experience, its underlying architecture, and the way the team works.
* You’re low ego, highly accountable, and genuinely motivated by helping others succeed.
