Make a real difference in your community
Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.
We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a Recovery Coordinator to join our team at HMP Northumberland.
This is a rewarding and varied role where you’ll support people in custody who are affected by drug and alcohol use, helping them to engage with treatment and make positive changes throughout their recovery journey.
Taking a person-centred and holistic approach, you’ll provide a range of interventions, from brief interventions and initial assessments through to structured treatment and group-based support.
You’ll work with individuals to understand their needs, strengths and aspirations, developing personalised recovery plans that reflect their individual circumstances and goals.
You’ll manage your own caseload, building positive and trusting relationships with the people you support while helping them address the challenges associated with substance use and develop the skills and confidence needed to sustain their recovery.
Working within a prison environment, you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues, prison staff and external partner agencies to ensure individuals receive coordinated support.
You’ll also play an important role in supporting transitions from custody into the community, helping people access appropriate treatment, services and ongoing recovery support.
Every day brings an opportunity to make a difference, helping people recognise their potential, overcome barriers and take positive steps towards a healthier and more independent future.
We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, motivated and passionate about supporting people to make positive changes in their lives.
You’ll ideally have experience of working with people affected by drug and/or alcohol use, or supporting individuals with complex needs, alongside an understanding of the challenges people can face when accessing treatment and recovery services.
You’ll also bring:
Desirable:
Experience of delivering psychosocial interventions, such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or other evidence-based approaches. Experience of facilitating group work would also be beneficial.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference – someone who can see the person beyond their circumstances, recognise their potential and support them to build a positive future.
This experience could come from paid employment, volunteering or other relevant experience.
