At Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, we're redefining aerospace through innovation, collaboration, and advanced engineering.

As a Senior Design Engineer, Tooling, you'll design manufacturing tooling that enables the production of high-quality aerospace components while improving safety, ergonomics, efficiency, and operational performance.

If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, collaborating across functions, and developing innovative tooling solutions that make a measurable impact on manufacturing, we'd love to have you on our team.

What You Will Do

• Design and develop manufacturing tools that support safe, ergonomic, high-quality, and efficient production in accordance with Tool Design Manuals and aerospace industry best practices.

• Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using CATIA V5 to support composite layup, sheet metal fabrication, machining, and mechanical assembly manufacturing processes.

• Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, and Engineering teams to deliver tooling solutions that support production requirements and ensure compliance with engineering and quality standards.

• Investigate tooling and manufacturing issues by participating in Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) activities and implementing effective corrective actions.

• Drive continuous improvement by analyzing manufacturing challenges, developing innovative tooling solutions, and optimizing product quality, productivity, and operational performance.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

• Advanced proficiency using CATIA V5 to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for manufacturing tooling.

• Experience designing tooling for composite layup, sheet metal fabrication, machining, and mechanical assembly manufacturing processes.

• Working knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawing interpretation, material properties, and standard hardware selection for tooling applications.

• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and support Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) activities.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Knowledge of aerospace Tool Design Manuals and tooling design best practices.

• Experience supporting aerospace manufacturing or production environments.

• Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and productivity.

• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles and manufacturing process optimization.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Advanced Structures:

Our Advanced Structures team leverages advanced materials and additive manufacturing to develop complex interior and exterior solutions. These solutions ensure structural integrity of the aircraft, help aircraft take off and land, stay trim in the air, move forward, carry cargo and conduct rescues. We delight our customers with superior products and best-in-class service. Our global team is committed to continuous improvement – we work hard to make our solutions lighter-weight, stronger and more technically advanced, so that plane travel can be safer, more affordable and more sustainable in the years to come. We are looking for the best and brightest to fly and land with us!

Engineering & Technology:
Collins Aerospace makes modern flight possible. Of course, that wouldn’t be possible without the capabilities and technologies of our organization, as well as our engineers – a highly skilled, accomplished network that spans more than 180 sites, 24 countries and 6 Strategic Business Units (SBUs).

Together, we will nurture an engineering culture that values intellectual curiosity, risk takers and integrity. A place where we will challenge ourselves, our teams, and the status quo and where we will work to find a way – the right way – to achieve what others can only dream of.

Role Type Definitions:
