The range listed reflects the entire range and typical placement is entry to mid range.
Pay Range: $82,904.79-$113,359.58 AnnualPlacement for Traffic Engineer I, II, III will be based on certifications and experience.
Salary for Traffic Engineer I: $82,905 - $113,360
Salary for Traffic Engineer II: $96,610 - $125,262
Salary for Traffic Engineer III: $101,229 - $138,415

The City of Arvada is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Traffic Engineer I, II or III. This role is responsible for the design, review, and contract administration of traffic and transportation projects — including street layouts, traffic signals, signage, striping, and other improvements within the public right-of-way. You'll work on both public infrastructure projects and private development reviews, ensuring they meet city standards while keeping safety and efficiency top of mind.
The ideal candidate has foundational knowledge of traffic engineering principles and is eager to grow their skills through hands-on experience. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to everything from traffic signal timing to community-facing inquiries — all while helping Arvada plan for a safer, smarter transportation future. Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Traffic Engineer I:
License & Certification
Colorado Engineer In Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
Traffic Engineer II
License & Certification
Colorado Engineer In Training (EIT) certification required.
A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Work Experience Related
Two (2) or more years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
Traffic Engineer III
License & Certification
Colorado Engineer In Training (EIT) certification required.
A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Work Experience Related
Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
Work Experience Preferred
Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
Education Degree

Other Qualifications
Must obtain and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Certification.
Must pass a criminal background check and a driving record check, if required by the position.
